A Mother’s Day with Rylee + Cru
What began for Kelli Murray Larson in the winter of 2014 as a passion project, inspired by her own children, Rylee and Cru, is now an established children’s clothing brand sold in 800+ retail boutiques and in 25+ countries. Within the Rylee + Cru Collective, Kelli has successfully launched three brands- Rylee + Cru, Quincy Mae, and Noralee, with the desire to build brands that meet you and your children at every stage of life. For this Mother’s Day we connected with Kelli to chat all things kids fashion, being a mom in the industry - and of course, summer plans!
Rylee + Cru merges art and imagination, offering unique clothing for the modern child and mom. Each collection is built on high-quality basics with soft and well-loved qualities matched with beautiful muted tones and timeless traits. With each shape made to be comfortable, thoughtful fabrics and materials are then meticulously sourced to make dressing both effortless and memorable for baby, child, and mama alike.
SS: Tell us about Rylee and Cru - how it came about and where it's headed?
KL: In 2011, I gave birth to my first daughter, Rylee, which introduced me to the world of children's clothing. I was pretty underwhelmed by the options in the market at that time.....and it was then that the idea of starting a brand of my own was formed. Rylee & Cru launched in 2014 out of my own desire to see something in the market that I couldn't find myself; clothing for children that suited my own personal taste in color, art, and silhouettes. Never could I have imagined it would turn into what it is today! It has been the wildest journey, and I am so grateful for it all.
SS: Describe your perfect Mother's Day.
KL: I love keeping it simple and just spending the whole day with my fam. I love getting little notes or small gifts that my kids make for me. They are little moments that make me feel so special and that I will truly cherish forever. Ideally, there's a nap involved (for me!) and a break from chores and to-dos, and the kids all get along for the entire day ;)
SS: What are some fan-favorite Rylee and Cru sets for moms and their minis to match?
KL: Mama + Mini matching is a staple for our brand, I love being able to connect with my kids and have a sweet matching moment. A few fan favorites would be our best-selling Kelli Set, it’s a cute two-piece set that can be worn as a cover-up or on its own. Our Millie one-piece is available in the cutest prints and is perfect for those summer vacation photos. I’m also really excited to introduce our new crochet pieces this upcoming summer, they are already becoming a favorite around the office!
SS: We're so excited to have Rylee + Cru join SwimShow in Miami this July - what do you most look forward to in the magic city?
KL: There’s so much art and culture to explore in Miami. I’m really inspired by new cities, it keeps our designs fresh and gives us the opportunity to connect with our customers across the globe. Great weather and sandy beaches are always a plus too!
SS: Any other travel plans this summer?
KL: Yes! We love to make the most of the kid's summer break by relaxing together and visiting family. We’ll spend some time in Palm Springs, which is always a relaxing trip since it’s nearby, and then we will go to Minnesota, my husband’s hometown! We love Minnesota summers so much and can’t wait to be by the lake.
