The “IT” Brand Your Kids Will Love to Swim in this Spring
Molo is most known for its dynamic prints and unique silhouettes and will make your mini want to spend any sunny day splashing around at the pool or beach. While Molo sure has fun constantly impressing us with their designs - one thing they take very seriously is sustainability. Molo has committed to finding responsible solutions for a sustainable future. From using REPREVE recycled polyester, one of the industries most trusted, branded performance fibers made from recycled materials like plastic bottles and pre-consumer waste from areas where plastic is most at risk at entering a marine environment - to sunglasses made from recycled plastic (rPET) - the brand continues to trailblaze the world of children's wear.
All of their swimwear is highly sun protective with UPF 50+ and we got to chat with Noemi Dalby, Head of Swim, Outerwear and Sport Design on the latest SS22 collection now available online and some places and colors that inspire her in the design room, influencers we should follow and how Molo is designing for the next generation of kids who will change the world.
SS: The Spring/Summer season is just around the corner, what can shoppers look forward to from your brand as the weather warms?
M: You will find beautiful patterns and designs that make you feel ready to jump right into the ocean or the pool with style. We have bikinis and swimsuits with sculptural flounces and lines, which makes a bikini or a swimsuit more than just a piece of swimwear. Or if you are more into humor, then go for a strawberry or an ice cream cone...
SS: While recent times have left people eager and ready to wear their favorite outfits and spend time outside with friends - what have you reflected on in the past year? How has it changed your outlook / philosophy from lifestyle to the design room?
M: For me, I think about the impact on the environment when finding my favorites and with an awareness of the footprint this will have on our planet. I’m also moved by colours, so for me right now, I am very much into greens and purples. After a time with the pandemic, I crave bright colours, as they make me happy.
SS: Tell us a bit about your travel inspirations, favorite place on earth and a place you'd love to visit - but haven't yet.
M:There are so many places I love... But one place that has a special place in my heart is Sri Lanka and I have visited there so many times. I can go back to my childhood, where I have spent lots of time with my cousins on the beach or running around in the jungle with no worries. But I do hope one day to visit Japan, as I’m a big fan of the Japanese culture and the food. I would love to visit Japan :-).
SS: The swim and resort wear community have one thing in common - you design for people that like to enjoy life under the sun. Tell us about where you're from and if/how it influences your designs?
M: Well, as I am half from Sri Lanka, I think my way of seeing colours in the sun, may come from my background and my roots. In Sri Lanka it is very common to wear bright and colourful clothes. I have always been fascinated by how colours can work together and give new dynamics when mixing them in new ways.
SS: We're all on instagram and tiktok and find that every day, you can come across dozens, if not hundreds, of new influencers. Who are some of your favorite social media influencers and why?
M: For me to follow an influencer, they must inspire me. I follow many different influencers, like artists, travelers, photographers, environmental activists and designers. Here are a few of my favorites: @surf.stories, @cathrinerabendavidsen, @jordan_robins, @celinehallas, @plasticfreemermaid, @yuthanan_, @all_minimal, @gretathunberg.
SS: Lastly, as brands continue to come together to make strides and be progressive - what brand values do you want to be known for?
M: For me, I want to design for the next generation, our kids. They are the ones who will be the future of our planet. This means we have the responsibility to hand over important values such as making more sustainable products, but also showing how beautiful our world is and why we need to protect it. I love that we can make these amazing prints that we use in our collection, based on recycled polyester, which are fibers made from recycled, post-consumer waste, often plastic bottles, diverted from landfills. The production of recycled polyester requires less energy than that of new fibers and generates fewer CO2 emissions. Moreover, by transforming post-consumer waste into new resources, we are repurposing the materials, giving them a second life which is something that we care for at Molo.
