How 4 Friends Came Together to Create Banana Moon

From the tiniest of bikinis to the coziest of sweaters, loungewear and even these warm booties. Banana Moon has had a multi-generational mark in the category we love so dearly. A long-time friend of SwimShow, we spoke with the designers to chat key styles, the holidays and where they flock to for a break during the winter. SS: Tell us about Banana Moon. Who you are, how you started, why, when and where?

BM: It all started in 1984 : A friendship between Daniel, Veronique Flachaire and Bernard Donati. Together they met with Californian designer Nat Maori and got inspired to create Banana Moon. The brand is rooted in the 8o’s with a rich multicultural background mixing European known-how with California Beach lifestyle.

SS: What are the key styles your customers love most?

BM: Our customers love our triangle tops and Side tie bottoms that feature a large contrasting edge stitch to reflect a Boho style. Solid and prints are each just as popular.

SS: You offer homewear, a nod to cozying up and staying warm; what colors / styles do you think are a big hit for fall/winter seasons?

BM: Earthy tones are a must for fall/winter: Kaki, Terra Cota, Taupe… They reflect our need to be close to nature. To make it fun we like to use soothing colors with a twist of vibrant details.

SS: We love the activewear collection - whether it's yoga, surfing or working out; what are your go to styles for different forms of exercise?

BM: We want to make cardio look good and fun!

We like to play mix and match with our color palette. In terms of shapes, we love a feminine top or sports bra with a sexy plunge. Pair it with a legging and a fleece pullover to stay comfy and warm.

SS: Now - Swim is always in! Any warm vacation/ getaway plans this winter?

BM: We are always up for a beach getaway!  The best way to boost our mood and creativity. Our favorite beach destinations  are  Aruba , Turks and Caicos, Mexico and Florida. When I travel obviously, I always love to pack tons of swimsuits with me: A black bikini, a one piece to swim or pair it with a denim shorts and a colorful print for a cool island vibe. I always bring lots of cover ups to walk around.
